"The hand adorned with turquoise will never suffer want," so goes an old proverb. Grave goods prove that the ancient Egyptians used turquoise as a gemstone as early as Predynastic times (around 5500 BC). The most famous pieces come from Tutankhamun's tomb.

Hawk's Eye belongs to the tiger's eye family and is often also called gray tiger's eye.

Howlite was discovered in 1868 by James Dwight Dana. Its name refers to the mineralogist Henry How.
